September 23, 2022 | Symphony Space, Broadway, New York City

On September 23, 2022, the vibrant heart of Manhattan pulsed with Filipino pride as the Philippine Heritage Center Inc., in partnership with The Street of Dreams Program for the Arts, presented OOH LA LA FILIPINAS at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre at Symphony Space. Marking a historic milestone, the event was celebrated as the first Broadway original Filipino musical play production—a groundbreaking moment for Filipino arts on the world stage.

More than a cultural showcase, the musical was a powerful recollection of the Filipino people’s journey—from the end of the American-Hispanic War to the present day—told through the reflective perspective of a young Filipino-American artist living in New York City.

Spoken in English, Filipino, Spanish, and Chinese, the performance celebrated the Philippines’ rich multilingual and multicultural history. The production masterfully wove together personal narrative, historical memory, and collective identity through song, dance, monologue, and visual storytelling.

Produced by the Philippine Heritage Center Inc., and elevated through its collaboration with The Street of Dreams Program for the Arts, the event served as both an artistic expression and a cultural reconnection—uniting generations of Filipinos through shared history and creative excellence. Filipino-American talents from New York and beyond graced the stage, illuminating the struggles, resilience, and spirit of a people shaped by colonization, migration, and modern transformation.

The success of OOH LA LA FILIPINAS was not only measured by a standing ovation but also by the camaraderie it fostered among the Filipino community in New York. It became a meaningful gathering that strengthened ties among artists, audiences, and advocates for Filipino arts and culture in the diaspora.

As the curtain fell, the message was clear: heritage lives on through stories told, songs sung, and dances performed. OOH LA LA FILIPINAS stood as a powerful reminder of the beauty of cultural identity—and the enduring dreams of a people uplifted through the arts.
